Scientists are scratching their heads watching this mysterious haze coming off the Southern hemisphere of the planet. Though they aren’t certain what the hell it is, analysis of the images shows the gassius plum, also known as a fart, is over 1000 kilometers in size.
Mars’ flatulence was noticed in 2012, but back then it was assumed to be a lense malfunction. The issue remained silent but deadly, until it popped up again a year later. Lately, the scientific community have confirmed that this is in fact a real phenomenon.
Scientists are not sure how this large plum actually formed or what it is. Some theorize it is simply a large cloud, but cannot explain how it formed so far up in the atmosphere. Others think it is an aurora, since such those have been spotted before on this part of Mars. However, such an aurora would be many times greater than the ones we get here on Earth, which makes little sense considering the small size of Mars’ magnetic field.
Right now, scientists are actively waiting around for Mars to release its gassy plum once more, so they can smell it up close, using better equipment. This way they hope to find out how the planet dealt it, and when it plans to fart again.
