Penguins can’t taste their crappy diet

Scientists have found a genetic trait shared by Penguins, that prevents them from tasting anything bitter, sweet, or savory (umami). This explains why they have no trouble eating the have digested fish puke their parents coughed up to feed them.

A research report published in Current Biology, showed that the taste receptors are simply not functional in penguins. More research must be done to see if they can’t taste salty or sour as well. If not, they will instantly become perfect candidates for any school or hospital’s menu.

The theory is that in the Antarctic winter it is simply too cold for taste buds to have any value at all. The ancient ancestors of the penguins, who landed in that froze hell hole, must have had little use for anything, let alone a sense of taste. Over time, the ability to enjoy a good hamburger simply went away.

If this research shows us anything, it’s this: people living in cold countries cannot be trusted with food, and most likely puke into their kids mouth to feed them. That makes sense, right? follows directly from the facts. Science!
